{Style Guide} The Bold Eye Look and Nude Lip Combo

I have been uber busy with a hundred and one wedding design packages (in case many of you didn't already know that I was a Wedding Planner and Designer), which is why this post is such a short one. I recently received an email from a bride enquiring about a chic-classy make-up look. So I am sharing with you one of my favourite wedding make-up trends.

If you are looking for a glowing wedding make-up style then why not consider this ...  a bold eye and nude lip look. The two extremes complement each other giving an effortless, glamorous yet completely chic glow to your wedding day. If you have heard of Kim Kardashian and her recently shortened marriage, then you will probably have noticed Kim’s famous smoky eye look which gives a sultry-chic feel. The smoky look is one of my favourites and one I try and Rock!!

I have included a youtube video of  Naeem Khan who so simply demonstrates a beautiful make up look for an engagement, wedding reception or any party throughout the year!

And if you wanted to see how this make-up look works with all the jewellery and accessories of a true Asian bride, then for imaginations sake - take a look at these enchanting bridal looks!

{Supplier Love} World Record Holder for Fastest Mendhi Designs

Pavan Ahluwalia, Guiness World Record Holder for being the fastest Mendhi artist is some what of an amazing talent. Not only is she the speediest of artists in her trade, but her designs are an Art form in their own right. Someone so distinguished in her trade, it is no wonder, that she is so highly sought after. Pavan, Mendhi Artist to the stars and some definitely recognised company profiles, she is someone who works incredibly proficiently and professionally.

Pavan's work is best described in these incredible images she has so kindly provided. At such a young age, she has accomplished so much and has so much more to give. These intricately phenomenal designs are transposed into couture Art. Pavan has raised the art of Henna design to a new high and has potentially broken all records of beauty!

There is one thing when it comes to Bridal Mendhi that I admire Pavan for is her core belief in moulding designs based of a Bride's individuality, capturing her essence and her personality and charisma. Pavan takes into account the designs and embroidery of bridal wear, jewellery, colours and atmosphere. Having a bridal team that understands these things are what keeps Bride's sane and rest assured.

Pavan offers various different packages based on the bespoke needs of every bride, these include:

The Diamante Package which is what Pavan refers to as her ... Contemporary look, with an ethnic twist!
This involves intricate henna trails from an inch below the elbow to the forefinger. This is on the inside and the outside of the hands as well as intricate trails on the feet leading up to the ankle.
The Shaadi Chic Package is the East Meets West!
A traditional Mehndi on the inside of the hands up to two inches below the elbow, a lighter option with intricate trails on the back of the hand, an inch below the elbow leading down to the forefinger. As well as Henna on the feet leading up to the ankles.
The Rajwada Package, probably more commonly understood as the Rajasthani style!
This package is for the bride who desires mehndi in all it's traditional grandeur. Traditional intricate henna on the inside of the hands coming up to the arms just above the elbow. Traditional henna on the outside of the hands, heavy and covering the tips of fingers. Detailed henna on the feet coming up to the ankles and leading up to the legs.
Bespoke Package << I think I like this one the best, where anything goes!
All packages are negotiable to suit the Bride's needs for the big day. Pavan is happy to oblige with a service, exclusively tailored to your requirements.
Then there is the Total Look Package, this includes Bridal hair, Mendhi and make up - everything a bride needs to look radiant and most eloquent.

Prices do start from £250 to £550 depending on packages and individual requirements.

This morning on the blog I bring you a refreshing wedding tale of two beautiful people and their Fairytale bliss.

This glorious outdoor wedding by Kandarp and Purvi, has made my morning. I love it when couples create a wedding unlike any other, especially as a guest, attending that cookie cutter wedding year in and year out can get a little tiresome. But this quaint couple have brought elegance, grandeur and chic all in one decadent picturesque wedding. Thanks to Tapas Maiti for these wonderful imagery we can see this pristine wedding in all its spectacle. Enjoy these images of a seamless and demure wedding.

The beautiful bride prepping for her walk down the aisle, with her make-up artist by her side, a pampering life it is to be in a fairytale. The blue skies and spectacular sunshine illuminate this setting in all its glory. The Mandap has an open roof and the seating area is splashed with royal maroons and gold sashes.

But what cannot be ignored in this wedding is their royal horse and carriage in true Cinderella style. Tapas Maiti said that this wedding, "it was one of my favourites of the year".

This gorgeous birdcage centrepiece theme which was relayed on this sweet, demure cake just adds simple touches of awesomeness which cannot be faulted.

I feel as if this last image should go on the last page of a fairy tale book with the words 'happily ever after'.

{Wedding Feature} Beyoncé - Best Thing I Never Had

Last night, I was sitting in a café with a dear friend of mine, and Beyoncé's Best thing I never had played on the plasma. We both watched the video and my friend asked me whether I had blogged about this video because of all the wonderful wedding and bridal dresses in it. I replied, 'NO! But that's a brilliant idea - better late than never!' So here goes, if you haven't done so already, have a look at the video is really does have some magnificent wedding designs and Beyoncé herself looks stunning and radiant.

At the start of the video Beyoncé wears sexy white lingerie by Agent Provocateur, she then slips into a strapless ballgown with an embroidered and embellished bodice by, we’re told, the boutique Baracci Beverly Hills. For the reception, she wore a dress she could dance in, an ivory Vera Wang V-neck style. Beyoncé keeps a double bun, throughout the wedding ceremony and lets her hair out at the reception to coordinate with the relaxed style of her Vera Wang dress.

You just can't fault Beyoncé for anything in this video!

The Art of Henna

Henna: spiritual and traditional.

What mendhi is?

Most of us know Mendhi as henna, and fashion has turned this tradition, symbolic of bridal euphemisms...

"Mendhi (Hindi: मेहँदी) is the application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration in India", North Africa and the Middle East. The word Mehendi itself comes from a Sanskrit word Megaghni, also meaning turmeric. In combination, the turmeric and mehndi are used in old Vedic rituals.

These Vedic customs are about 'awakening the inner light'.

In rural India, women grind the fresh henna leaves and add oil - this is probably known as the 'real stuff' and brings out a much deeper often darker colour. Being the twenty first century, mendhi can be bought in ready made cones, which make painting easy.

The purpose of this blog and the art of Mendhi hold one similarity, that is they are all about weddings! Mendhi parties are commonly associated with weddings. Mendhi, holding higher rank as a significant pre-wedding ritual.

Traditional Indian weddings are large, week long elaborate events. Among the weeks celebration is the Mendhi. It is a fun, spiritual night celebrated most commonly by the bride's friends and family. These customs vary depending on ones own rituals and culture. Wealth and status plays it's own role within this.

There are various rituals the bride herself has to go through.

The bride's family celebrates by gathering the bride's friends and relatives to bless the bride.

Where it first started?

What it is used for?

Henna is typically applied during special occasions like weddings and Hindu festivals like Karva Chauth, Diwali, Bhaidooj and Teej. In some Hindu festivals, every woman tries to have Henna done on her hands and feet. It is usually drawn on the palms and feet, where the color will be darkest because the skin contains higher levels of keratin which binds temporarily to lawsone, the colorant of henna. Henna was originally used as a form of decoration mainly for brides.

Why is it special?

Mendhi, as beautiful and as seductive as it is in it's own right, mendhi has a deeper much appreciated meaning. It shows her transformation from a young girl into a temptress for her hunband.

I read somewhere that in the "Kama Sutra, henna is one of the sixty four arts of women."

What do the designs mean?

Traditional mehndi designs draw the sun on the palm, which in this context represents the mind.

Popular motifs of the bridal mehendi are conchshell, flowers, Kalash, peacock, doli and baraat patterns.

What are the fun parts of Mendhi?

The intricate motifs of the bridal henna also hide the husband’s name. It is said that the husband’s name in the intricate henna motifs is made for the groom who has to find out his name in his bride’s mehendi as an evidence of his sharp eyes and active brain to impress his girl.

Traditional application?

Mehndi is a ceremonial art form which originated in ancient India. Intricate patterns of mehndi are typically applied to brides before wedding ceremonies. The bridegroom is also painted in some parts of India. In Rajasthan, the grooms are given designs that are often as elaborate as those for brides. In Assam, apart from marriage, it is broadly used by unmarried women during Rongali bihu (there are no restrictions to the married ones). Henna is also common in some gulf states, specially Bahrain, where the night before the wedding night is dedicated to decorating the bride with henna, and called "Henna night".

The Mendhi night?

Weddings in the India can often be long ritualistic and elaborate affairs with many pre-wedding, wedding and post wedding ceremonies. The occasion of Mehndi ceremony is often one of the most important pre-wedding rituals especially for the bride. It is a fun filled ritual, which is celebrated mainly by the bride's family. Different regions of the country celebrate the ritual in a different way according to their own marriage customs, rituals, and culture.. Mehndi ceremonies take place outside the India amongst the Indian community and places like Birmingham in the UK are such known hotspots for lavish Mehndi celebrations.

The ceremony is mainly held at the bride's house or at a banquet hall on the eve of the marriage ceremony or few days before the marriage. Generally the bride and groom attend the event together and on the occasion a professional henna artist or a relative applies mehndi to the bride's hands and feet the designs are very intricate. Often hidden within the mehndi pattern the name or initials of the groom are applied. The event generally has a celebratory festival feel to it with the women dancing and singing traditional songs and the girls wearing vivid colours such as hot pink and yellow, often if the bride to be wishes to tease her future groom she will make him wear purple. The groom usually wears jutti instead of western footwear.

Beauties, Mandaps and more than a splash of colour

Mandaps are the spiritual stage for Hindu and Jain marriages. Originally made from wood, these spectacles come is all sizes, shapes and forms and the decoration and customisation is an endless list of flowers, drapery, lighting, crystals and statues...

Below are some beautifully pristine images of chic, style-savvy, spiritual hubs, they really do take your breath away. There is something pretty fantastic about Hindu weddings and the idea that they don’t need to be in a holy temple. They can be anywhere, any location, and morph into whichever way you want your Mandap to look like.

Imagine your Mandap on a beach with no backdrop so you see the ocean through the back, or at the top of a hill where you can have the horizon in view, in a beautiful marquee, abroad – somewhere phenomenal, in a hall, in your house. They really are amazing things that can be put up anywhere and taken down easily.

Then of course they can be made from carved wood, simple pillars, metal framework, draped in bright silk colours, decorated with pearls and crystals, floral arrangements, they can be as elaborate as you want to as simple and chic as you want.

When planning your wedding and deciding on the design of your Mandap, an eye for detail is a must and doing your research is key. Make sure you browse through all the catalogues at your local Mandap hire company, look at what they offer and how they can help you make your Mandap special.
