Q. Can I be an Asian Boho Bride? Is there such a thing?
A. The term Boho actually comes from Bohemian which is an individual who follows a certain free lifestyle stressing on self-expression instead of conforming to society, wealth and status. Bohemian traditionally came from the migration of ‘gypsies’ from Czech Republic’s, Bohemia to France in the 19th century. But now the Bohemian is a term famously used to a fashion style much like that of a hippie with long flowing and tiered skirts, ethnic and wooden jewellery, beading and fringed clothing. This look is definitely combined with a lot of colour and a lot of layers.
Now we know Asian attire is full of colours and sequins but truly being bohemian is all about enjoying the electric mix of all the things you love in life whilst making a difference in the world around you.
So being Asian should put you front running in the boho era because of our love for colours and shiny sequins and goodness knows how many layers we have with a sari. So being a boho bride is something that should come naturally. It's important to clarify that boho Asian does not mean high-class Asian - it means relaxed, non-conformist and truly gypsy. Of course you can take elements of the boho period such as head bands and class them up. But all in all to be undoubtedly boho you need to be in a place of Calm and the essence of being environmentally green. Comprende?!
