Jay Dhokia Photography's list for things to consider
- wear comfortable clothes or have a set of outfits to change into.
- props can add great character to photos
- have a theme for the photos, for example the colour red, or one of your favourite films.
- location - locations have an important part to play. The surrounding area can help create the picture. Choose a location, for example, the place you met, or go on a sunday afternoon, where the proposal took place. Jay Dhokia has some popular locations for couples to retreat and take the photos.
- be as creative as you want, share ideas with the photographer
- choose a day where there are no time constraints.
- time of day - photos can be as amazing in the night as the day.
Use this time to create an understanding with your photographer. Build some trust and a relationship with them. It is a great way to unwind and set your expectations. Consider it as a warm up for your big day.
"Pre wedding shoots are great fun! Some of the couples we have worked with are hilarious and the ideas they have are amazing. It makes my job a lot more easier." says Jay Dhokia.
After the shoot, invite them for a drink. Your ideas may change, and tell them how much fun you had. Talk to them and ask them what can be produced from the photos. Many weddings have a guestbook or a large canvas of the couples favourite picture in the foyer, where guests can leave comments for them and then read these after the day is over.
